Natalia Gima

Bio

I'm Natalia Gima, an audiovisual artist working with creative code and new media. Originally from Argentina, I've been living in Barcelona for over 20 years. I integrate art, science, and technology into my creative process, focusing on expanding the boundaries of digital formats beyond the screen. I develop immersive experiences and interactive installations that promote new ways of connecting with our environment, using contemporary technological tools to perceive a more interconnected world and reflect on our relationship with ecological awareness.

I graduated from CIEVYC, an experimental film school in Buenos Aires, and over time I began to explore new digital formats and possible narratives. In 2019, I obtained a master's degree in Interactive Environments and Audiovisual Innovation at BAU, where I learned about programming, creative code, and prototyping with Arduino. This training allowed me to merge my previous audiovisual practices with innovative tools, adopting DIY methodologies and encouraging self-training.

That same year, I co-founded the artistic collective Akyute with Magdalena Hart, with the mission of using digital tools to reconnect with the human experience in an increasingly digitalized era. Our approach unifies the design of interactive experiences, audiovisual arts, and generative sound, seeking to reintegrate nature into the technological dialogue and proposing a fluid relationship between human beings and their environment.

Our works have been exhibited at festivals and venues such as Sónar Festival, MIRA Festival, MMMAD Madrid Digital Festival, Arts Santa Mònica, NEO CosmoCaixa, and MODEL Festival, among others.
In parallel, I have expanded my visual facet by collaborating with artists such as MBODJ and Jokkoo Collective, participating in the Sónar Festival, Curtocircuíto Festival, Norient Festival, La Casa Encendida, and the Premis Ciutat de Barcelona awards ceremony.

More recently, I have collaborated with dance companies and performers to explore the relationship with the body through the use of motion sensors to generate visual and audible patterns. "Cuerpos Errantes" arises from the collaboration between the Institut de Ciències del Mar, Espronceda Art Center, and Inervo Company, and "Time, Force & Space" in collaboration with Akyute, Daphne Xanthopoulou, Nona Siepman, and ECOSS Festival.
